Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park
Visit Rainbow Springs and and get unlimited entry for 24 hours. See New Zealand 's living dinosaurs the tuataras. Walk through the aviary where tui, kereru and karariki roam and watch the birds feed. View and feed some of the largest wild trout you will ever see. See them from an underwater viewing gallery. Return after dark and watch the kiwi in their natural habitat, with only a knee-high fence separating you from these curious native birds.
Take the combo package to Kiwi Encounter and learn about kiwi conservation, from kiwi egg collection in the wild, incubation, hatching and then raising of the chicks until they are ready to be released back into the wild. If you are very fortunate, you may see a kiwi chick hatch from the egg.
Paradise Valley Springs
Explore this superb wildlife aprk and experience New Zealand 's trout, animals and birdlife in a beautiful, tranquil native bush setting. Discover trout pools and streams, wild trout, underwater viewing, native birds, huge native eels and cool freshwater springs. Stroll through the wetlands and the farmwalk where you will meets lots of friendly farm animals. Handfeed the trout and animals. Take a long cool drink straight from the freshwater spring.
To finish your wildlife experience, watch the lion pride being fed at 2.30pm every day. You won't get any closer to a lion than at Paradise Valley . Lion cubs up to 12 months old may be patted and photographed by visitors.
Agrodome
Spend time at the Agrodome where sheep strut their stuff. Learn about each sheep species origin and how their fleeces are used. Watch the sheep shearing and the dog round up the geese, milk a cow, feed a hungry lamb. See the dogs control the sheep and herd them into the pen. Take the farm tour and learn about the sheep deer, alpaca and llama. Stroll through the organic orchard and view kiwifruit vines, feijoas and olive trees. Sample kiwifruit juice, honey and fruit.
Participate in the adventure activities at Agrodome – jet boats, bungy jump, swoop, freefall extreme, zorb and schweeb.
Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust
Featuring threatened New Zealand falcons, hawks and owls, Wingspan is a unique conservation programme as New Zealand 's only bird of prey centre. Enter the main aviary through a landscaped all-weather walkway. Themed with native plants the large aviaries show native birds in a close-to natural environment. Much of the Trust's work involves the rehabilitation of injured birds and their release back to the wild. The highlight is the flying display of falcons over the surrounding farmland each afternoon at 2pm. Volunteers practice the art of falconry as a method to prepare birds for release into the wild. Don a glove and hold one of the beautiful little falcons.
Horse Trekking
View Rotorua forest and farmland from the back of a horse suited to your riding skills and experience. Treks range from 45 minutes to three hours and pony rides for children are for 15 or 30 minutes. Ride in the native bush or through the Redwoods.
