Te Urewera Treks
Offers a range of unique wilderness treks through the remote indigenous rainforests of Te Urewera and Whirinaki and over to the beautiful Lake Waikaremoana . The area is rich in native birdlife like kereru, tui and kaka and the regiohs Maori culture is thriving.
Treks are one, two or three days and all include yummy lunches and snacks, pickup and return to your accommodation and a relaxing natural hot pool dip at the end. On two and three day treks, you stay in comfortable campsites with all camping equipment provided as well as delicious campfire meals.
The Redwoods
Free to enjoy and explore. Walk among the huge 100 year-old redwood trees on soft, bark tracks. Enjoy the tranquility and smells of these old giants. There are six signposted tracks to walk, all starting from the3 Redwoods Visitor Centre. If you are keen hikers, pack a lunch and walk further into the forest. There are many forestry trails to explore and some spectacular views of the Rotorua area to see.
Waimangu Volcanic Valley
Created from the eruption of Mt Tarawera in 1886, Waimangu is the world's newest geothermal area. Walk down the valley past craters and lakes. Be amazed at the intense, changing colour of the Inferno Crater. See the boiling stream cool as it nears Lake Rotomahana . Look for the forming, colourful sinter formations at Warbrick Terrace. When you reach the lake, don't miss the boat trip to see where the world-famous Pink and White Terraces were before the eruption. Pass by steaming cliffs, the Tarawere Chasm and Starhill Crater. There is a complimentary bus service running regularly down and back up the valley.
